Dear Mama,
Your letter came the next morning after I mailed my weekly letter to you. So I am just sending a short note to tell you the things you wanted to know about the jackets and blouses. Am sending the samples of the skirts. Couldn’t get a very big sample of the brown skirt. Had to take this piece off the top of the hem. It is box pleated and when the pleats fall short the stripe doesn’t show at all. So she wants real dark brown velvet jacket. They want a regular “coat” jacket, with sleeves. Just a sport jacket. They wanted heavy silk blouses if you could get them not too expensive. Dorothy wanted a white blouse for the blue & Miriam a tan one for the brown. They wanted the over blouses to go on the outside of the skirts. The skirts are on heavy net waists.
Why was Lucretia in such a hurry when she took the trip to San Diego that she had to drive all night? Did she get the children yet?
We are having typical September weather now. Cool, hazy days & cold nights.
We are ironing today so must hurry & get back to it. We had two irons & ironing boards & Dorothy & Miriam both did hand ironing this morning while I worked on the mangle*. Now I guess I will have to iron most all afternoon. Had a terrible big washing.
Love to all,
Ruth

pictured - Ruth Baker Chunging and Hotel Baker in Baker Montana. I believe the hotel was named for the town, not Everett Baker.
The Baker Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places MONTANA, FALLON COUNTY, Baker Hotel, 4 South Main St., Baker, 04001435, LISTED, 1/05/05
The hotel was built in 1916, per the historic register and was designed by Jack Pratt.
A mangle is a mechanical laundry aid consisting of two rollers
-- now we know where the expression "mangled" comes from.
